Our Journey to Home Preschooling

When our first child turned three, I was deep in the final stages of my Ph.D. thesis. But suddenly, we faced an unexpected challenge: finding a preschool. In our small campus town, there was only one option—a public preschool. Within months, we were shocked to see our daughter singing Christmas songs and embracing Halloween decorations. She was immersed in a culture that didn’t align with our Islamic values, and we felt helpless as these influences grew stronger each day.

We searched for Islamic schools but found none nearby, and the only one we could afford was 40 miles away. We even approached homeschooling families, but our request was declined. As much as I wanted to teach her myself, my academic commitments left me with no time. That’s when we decided to take matters into our own hands and started homeschooling.

After I graduated, we moved with a clear mission: to create an educational environment where my children could thrive without compromising their identity. With this clear mission, my wife has been working in Islamic preschools for the last three years in multiple states and has gained sufficient experience in the U.S. childcare and education system. Then we have decided to extend this to other Muslim families in my community who may not have time or ability to do the same. In 2025, we opened Little Ummah Academy, a home-based preschool that offers an education rooted in Islamic values and academic excellence. We designed a curriculum that allows children to achieve their goals in just three hours a day, three days a week, reducing unnecessary classroom time and keeping tuition affordable. Please note, we will completely focus on academic activities to efficiently teach them within three hours, unlike traditional daycare preschools. So each child needs to be potty trained.

With a low teacher-to-student ratio of 1:6, we provide individualized lessons, ensuring every child can progress at their own pace. We use the Kumon method for Math and English, helping students advance quickly and gain independence in problem-solving. Along with academic subjects, we teach Arabic, Quran reading, Islamic etiquette, and the core tenets of Islam, nurturing both their academic success and Muslim identity. Our kids will be on this journey with yours.

Our dream is to expand Little Ummah Academy to offer education up to the elementary level. We invite you to visit us, share your thoughts, and explore how we can support one another in raising strong, proud Muslim children. Together, we’ll build a brighter future for our community, In Sha Allah.
